Dec. 20, 2019 Interlude: Biopsy

Renee Gentzel

In the world of cancer, the word ‘hot’ is highly loaded, and has multiple meanings. Hot, when it comes to PET scans, is considered to be very negative. Much like those kids in high school who would skip class to go smoke, cells that are ‘lighting-up’ are viewed by doctors with the same side-eye that the teachers would give those kids. “Suspicious characters, ” they say. “We need to keep an eye on them.”

Or, in my case, biopsy them! On Friday, I will have a biopsy of a singular lymph node that decided to either party hard with the cancer cells, or fight the good fight after surgery and work overtime to mop up everything. Results will be in before the next round of chemo on Jan. 2nd, 2020.
